Spring Break

A couple weeks ago for Spring Break we ventured down to Baja California for 4 days.  It was epic weather, relaxing, and family bonding.  Here are a few pictures of just that.

Outdoor fun in Papa's boat.

Picnic in the dunes, round about where we got engaged 11 years ago.

Natural artist like his parents, painting clam shells from the beach.

Have fun, but please return to me safely!

This last photo is me soaking in the sunset over the water from the living room while enjoying some cross-stitch, wine and a drift wood fire.  Ahh, if only I was there now.

My New Bundle

I've been getting lots of fabric time in.  Over the holiday weekend I finished binding a quilt (photos yet to come), and planned out my next quilt with these lovelies:

There are some of my favorites in here like Anna Maria Horner's Field Study, Denyse Schmidt's Katie Jump Rope, Hope Valley, Chicopea, and Flea Market Fancy.  Also some Joel Dewberry, Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Martha Negley, and Jay McCarroll.  I'm sure you can see Aqua is the main stream color, accented with deeper blues, cranberries, browns and golds.  I'm Swooning again. It's gonna be awesome!

Speaking of favorites, cuddling my boy on the beach is one of them.

He didn't want his picture taken, again... But too bad.  I love him so.  Sadly he split his lip open today, not too bad, but water play is currently postponed for a couple days.  What to do with him now?

Oo ooo, I almost forgot!  I also picked up my tickets to the Long Beach Quilt Festival Aug. 2-4.  I can't wait.  I've wanted to go the last few years but we are usually on holiday.  Bummed we aren't going on holiday this summer, but happy to be attending the Quilt show.  When I picked up my tickets I was informed it was the last one (at Long Beach).  Anyone know why?  More info here if you want to attend:  http://www.quilts.com/home/shows/viewer.php?page=SummerFestival

More Like Home Everyday

Over the holiday weekend, I was able to pick up my new sofa.  We haven't had one since we moved in in April.  Now this place finally feels like home to me.

We bought the Ikea Kivik sofa with a dark grey slip cover.  I'm already in love with it.  Its super firm but still comfy as it has some memory foam.  And the fact that it is slip cover makes me happy too.  I think my coffee table works well with the height of the seat and they compliment each other well.

Just before we moved my husband surprised me with this beautiful pair of blue crushed velvet sofa chairs.  He was so excited!  He said he got theme at an estate sale for $40 each.  What a steal!  They are super comfy and in good shape.  We will have to reupholster them eventually as the back are badly sun bleached, but you can't see that really up against the wall.   I've ordered some fabric to recover some pillows to tie the sofa and chairs together.

Its Anna Maria Horner's new Field Study Linen line.  I purchase a half yard bundle in the Charisma colorway (above) from Sew Love Fabrics for $40.  It was hard to choose between the colorways.  But I went with this one because it was brightest and my furniture is dark.  Can't wait to get my hands on them.

The first night we had the new sofa we hosted some out of town friends over with their two little ones.  Together with my son they broke it in perfectly.  I couldn't be happier...until today when I saw these at Target:

I don't know about you, but I love me some vintage blue Ball mason jars.  I was just thinking I wish I could find some more around here, but they are so popular they cost $15+ per jar.  I'm sorry, but that is rediculous!  I got my first one for 50 cents at a garage sale last summer.  I would have paid maybe $5, but not more.  I had no idea Ball was coming out with this anniversary edition, but I bought them with no hesitation.  Under $8 for 6 jars.  Now we have new glassware:D

Just for the sake of comparison, I had to put them side by side.

My vintage one is much more of a aqua (blue/green) and the new vintage one on the right is more of a turquoise.  I love all shades of aqua, teal, turquoise etc.  So I don't mind the differences.

I did some more sewing of my quilt I'll be back later this week to share my progress.

Friday Favorites

This has been a CRAZY week!  I got hit with a flu virus on Tuesday afternoon and ended up in the ER!  Finally starting to feel better.  Thank God!  I'm so thankful for all the days I'm not sick and that I have such a wonderful husband.  He has been a real trouper and hasn't complained one bit.  I think I chose wisely when I married him.  :D

Not much sewing going on around here this week although lots of surfing the web.  Bored out of my mind in bed.  I'd like to be productive, but I'm still not quite there yet.

So I leave you with some Friday Favorites I found this week:

My creation

Oh, and if you haven't been invited to church on Easter Sunday, its this Sunday, April 8.
Please do not hesitate to go.  Celebrate one of the most amazing events in world history – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (The only competition comes from Christmas when God became a man!)

Happy Easter!

Swoon Pinch :: Friday Favorites

Today I completed my first Swoon block.

I think out of all the Denyse Schmidt Picnic & Fairgrounds prints these two are my favorite together.  I might have to find more of them to make something for myself.

This block is HUGE!  I mean I knew it would be 24.5" square, but once I finished it and saw how big it was... I fell for it.  I've been pinched and am Swooning.  Now to pick my next two prints for block two.

On another note, Friday Favorites:
