Fun Filled Weekend

Phew! My weekend really began on Thursday last week. My sister and I drove into LA's Fashion District to shop for fabrics. Our goal was to gather fabrics for her photography studio. It was a success! She needed my textile know-how and I needed an excuse to visit the heartbeat of fabric. She thanked me for coming by purchasing this super cute vinyl for our family camping trip coming up. And I found these cute red & coral melamine dishes at Wal-Mart that match perfectly.

It'll be the cutest camping table ever! Thanks sister!

Check out that crazy hair! I look like I just walked off a 10 hour sweatshop shift. Ha! Hope I can tame the mane on our camping trip. Then again, it might keep the bears at bay.

Friday was a melow day at home. I did however beigin Swooning again.

I was the most excited about this fabric combo. This one will probably be my favorite. Or I might say that everytime I make a block, we'll see.

Saturday, was super fun! I attended the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach. Sadly it is the last time the festival will be held here. But I'm so blessed I got to go. Here is the loot I picked up for a steal.

Some Anna Maria Horner prints and the Hex N Moree by Jay Bird Quilts. I went with my mother-in-law and it was a pleasure to walk about the gallery with her. We were on a mission to be inspired for a guest room quilt. We took lots of pictures. I can't wait to see what design she decides on. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Fabric Friday

Yesterday I hit my local quilt shop, a rarity without my kid in tow.  Surprisingly it happened to be their anniversary sale!  Lucky me;D

I couldn't resist a few new stash builders.  Some low-volume prints.  Those specticals are the cutest!

Some OOP (out of print) favorites 

...and the 6"square panel strips of 16 in three color-ways of Anna Maria Horners' Little Folks voiles.  I can't believe how soft they are!

Oh and they had yardage of this Summer Soireé print by Paula Prass that is just darling so I bought a yard for who knows what?...hoarding I guess.

Today I worked on a couple custom orders for my Sandwich Wrap/Mats. Aren't they cute?

Hope to finish the rest of the orders this weekend.

Garden + New Stuff

Oh I'm so excited to share a few fun things with you.  Today Mr. Postman brought me some things that have been on my 'want' list for a while.  This Fiesta pitcher for one:

Got it on eBay for like $30 and I love it.  Its not quite the aqua vintage color, but I can't find one under $60.  So Turquoise it is.  Isn't it pretty?

I've been looking for some craft to put on my sewing corner walls.  Not really knowing what to look for, I stumbled across this cross stitch pattern called Home of a Quilter by Told in the Garden.  And...its Amish!  Bonus, I know!  

I just got home from the craft store and got all the DMC threads and cloth.  Now I just have to learn to cross stitch.  Any tips out there? 

Next I scored on Jeni's Destash shop on Etsy and found this fabric:

I was just thinking someone should reproduce the Amish Pyrex bowl print on fabric.  Thank you Henry Alexander!  Its called Harvest Town.  I have no idea when it came out, but I'm so happy to own one whole yard of it!  The colors are super fun too!

Okay, bare with me.  I've got a few more photos to share.  

This lovely stack of fabric was graciously given to me by my very good designer friend.  It's called Vintage Butterflies by Christine Adolph. 

Aren't these pastels and brights pretty?  There are two panel prints too.  This will make a precious little girl a pretty quilt.  I think I love the butterflies and script prints the most.

Okay time for a garden update.  Today we had a small harvest:

 Red Beets

 Tomatoes are ripening

 Cauliflower doesn't seem to love my late planting, but there is one little head forming.

Corn!  Jack is especially excited about the corn.  What kid doesn't like corn?

Sadly, I caught a opossum eating 2 of the 4 apricots on my tree.  Little rascal!  He better not come back...or else!

My 30th Birthday

Oh man, was I spoiled!  Although I'm fighting the truth of the matter (no longer being in my 20s),  I LOVE to celebrate my birthday.  Birthdays are always special, and this year doubley.  Where do I begin?  Well my husband threw me a family style dinner party with our closest friends.  Catered with rich Italian food.  YUM!  My very close friend, Jenna went all out on the decor and dessert.  She made the yummiest Tiramisu, with delicate little flowers on top and extra chocolate!  Whats a girl's birthday without chocolate?  Wish I had a picture of it.  Jenna also made me the tiarra above.  She made it so personal, it brought tears to my eyes.  You may not be aware, but that is Doris Day as Calamity Jane.  One of my all time favorite classic movies.  As you can see, Jenna added embellishments of buttons and pins.  I love her!

The invite to the party my husband sent, asked each family to bring fabric that represented their family.  I've been making a 9 patch friendship quilt since my 25th birthday.  These are the new additions to my quilt.  DS Quilts!!!  The little Japanese dolls, and of course the motorcross buds.  Some of the guests contributed to my friendship quilt already, and so brought me other little treasures.

This is my new Fat Quarter cubby from my Sister Monika and Grama.  I love love love it!  As you can see I haven't wasted any time setting it up.  I also received $$ for more quilt fabric, I've got something in mind... And last, but not least...my husband got me an iPhone!  I never would have asked for one, but now that I have it.  Well, I'm truly spoiled.  Okay, I'm off to hang with my men for a lovely evening by the fire.

Next Up

Today I want to share my next project with fabrics with you.  When I saw this FQ bundle last year, I thought, oh my sister is gonna want that!

Aviary 2 in Saffron by Joel Dewberry

She fell in love instantly when I sent her the link.  So I made a deal with her.  You pick up the tab and I'll make you something special.  These colors and prints compliment her Spanish style home so well. The quilt pattern she chose is really simple and wont require much cutting so this should be a quick one.

I needed a few more FQs though to break up some of the busy prints and bring out some of the colors, so we went with these Kona solids:

 

Kona solids from top to bottom: Champagne, Aloe, Tangerine, and Cinnamon.

Matching colors online is too tricky for me and I'm that anal that I really want them to match.  So I went to Flickr and found women that had used this line of fabrics and asked what solids they used.  I'm very happy with the first three.  The last one, the brown one, not so much.  I guessed on this one.  Next time I'm going with a chocolate color.  Cinnamon is a little too red, but my sister doesn't mind at all, she likes it.  So we are moving forward.

Pillow + Fabrics

As promised:

Here is my second pillow for my couch.  It is also 20" x 20" simple patchwork with two boarders.  I used DS Quilts Hope Valley to match this quilt.   Now both my hubby and I have quilts with matching pillows on the couch.  His + Her.

Oh and...I got some new fabrics today for stashing.  Only one really has an assignment right now.  I just loved the others so much I couldn't let the go out of print before I got some.

The Dark Grey wash is assigned as a backing for a very special quilt being made for Jack's little friend's birthday.

By the way, I have to share my excitement for our vacation, now booked, to Flathead Valley, Montana!  We will be leaving in August for 2 weeks with 3 other families from our church.  Sure to be pure fun!  Then I leave for 5 days to go see a new baby in the family for the very first time.  He/She isn't quite here yet...any day now.  But I'm so excited to go and smell fresh baby skin.  Yummy!  So for the next couple weeks I'm planning and sewing my brains out.  I'm hoping to have a new top done and a quilt to share.  I'm also trying to decide on a fun hand sewing project to keep me busy on the road.  Possibly hexagons!?  Inspired by this and that.  Not sure yet, but I think I'm gonna go for it.  If you have any Hexagon tips please send them my way.

Spontanious Cut, A Lot of Magic, & Monday Arrival

Well, I finally did it...I cut my hair!!!

I've never had short hair (well shorter than shoulder length), and I did this without consulting my man.  He has told me before that he REALLY likes my long hair, but I really wanted to try short.  So, I set an appointment and let my friend Jill go at it.  Joe was shocked at first, but does admit to liking it.  I LOVE it! 

After trimming my mane, we had a date night with a couple friends visiting from Nashville.  They took us to the exclusive Magic Castle Club in Hollywood.  It was definitely one of those nights you never forget.  The multiple shows of magic, ahhhmazing!  The comedy, so so funny.  I really needed a good dose of laughter.  The food...deeelish!  I even got to indulge in my favorite desert, creme bruleé.

We are so blessed to have had such a fun night out with great friends.  Thanks Gills!

And last but not least, my postman delivered these treats today.  Aren't they cute!

The two on the left are by American Jane, Daisies on Green of Peas & Carrots, and Green Flowers/Ribbons of Playground; purchased from ClayDeal.  And the two on the right are vintage sheet FQs purchased from JennasAttic.  I think they are great additions to my green stash for my Farmer's Wife Quilt, don't you?
